83rd Oscar Prediction

The nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards or better known as the OSCARS which are given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, including directors, actors, and writers.

This year, “127 Hours” actor James Franco & “Love and Other Drugs” actress Anne Hathaway are the host for the first time in the 83rd Academy Awards which will be held at Kodak Theatre, Los Angeles, California.

The King’s Speech” leads all nomination with twelve nominations with “True Grit” a mid-western movie is leading the rest of the pack with ten nominations while fan favourite “Inception” and “The Social Network” have eight nominations each, “The Fighter” have seven nominations while Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours” have six nominations while “Black Swan” have 5 nominations.

Annette Bening, Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Robert Downey, Jr. ,Tom Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Marisa Tomei, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon are confirmed to be the presenters of the award while Zachary Levi, Alan Menken, Mandy Moore, Randy Newman, Gwyneth Paltrow, A. R. Rahman, Florence Welch will be performing in the 83rd Oscars.

Best Actor
nominees: Colin FirthThe King’s Speech”, James Franco 127 Hours”, Jesse EisenbergThe Social Network”, Jeff BridgesTrue Grit”, Javier BardemBiutiful

With a talented and diverse group of leading men in this year category, from newcomers like to Jesse Eisenberg to old pros like last year’s winner in this category – Jeff Bridges. There’s a slight chance that Jeff Bridges might be pulling a Tom Hanks or Spencer Tracy, but indeed the nomination is appropriate because of his taking an iconic John Wayne role and making it his own. James Franco is also a welcome addition, as he’s quietly been compiling an impressive resume of work since his days spent menacing Spider-Man. Colin Firth seems to be a firm favourite to win Best Actor in the 83rd Academy Award although the Golden Globes is not the ideal indicator but the Screen Actor Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role went to Colin Firth “The King’s Speech” is facing the likes of James Franco “127 Hours”, Jesse Eisenberg “The Social Network”, Jeff Bridges “True Grit”, Javier Bardem “Biutiful” to win the coveted prize of Best Actor Award in the 83rd Academy Awards.

Best Supporting Actor
nominees: Christian Bale in “The Fighter”, John Hawkes in “Winter's Bone”, Jeremy Renner in “The Town”, Mark Ruffalo in “The Kids Are All Right”, Geoffrey Rush in “The King's Speech

The nominees of the Best Supporting Actor is very diverse in many ways as some of the actor nominated like Christian Bale was superb in his portrayal as Dick "Dicky" Eklund “The Fighter” while the rest also deserved their nominations. It’ll be close fight between Geoffrey Rush and Christian Bale, but the edge to Christian Bale because he’s never even been nominated for an Oscar before as He starred in everything from blockbusters to indie films. This is the year the Academy throws him a bone. And hopefully soon enough, a Best Actor nomination will be given to him in the immediate future. And no doubt Christian Bale is a talented and diverse actor after he beats the rest of the contenders to win the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role beating the same people who are nominated to the Best Supporting Actor awards. Most likely the winner would be Christian Bale.

Best Actress
nominees: Annette BeningThe Kids Are All Right”, Nicole KidmanRabbit Hole”, Jennifer Lawrence in “Winter's Bone”, Natalie PortmanBlack Swan”, Michelle WilliamsBlue Valentine

This is could be a straight fight between Annette Bening and Natalie Portman as the winners of Best Actress but both can’t dismiss the presence of Nicole Kidman for her role in “Rabbit Hole” and the rest of other nominees for Best Actress. My bet would be Natalie Portman for her excellent performance in “Black Swan"

Best Supporting Actress
nominees: Amy Adams in “The Fighter”, Helena Bonham Carter in “The King's Speech”, Melissa Leo in “The Fighter”, Hailee Steinfeld in “True Grit”, Jacki Weaver in “Animal Kingdom

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress is very diverse and special as there is a fifteen year old Hailee Steinfeld who’s role as a teenager in search for her father killer with a US Marshall played by Jeff Bridges earned her a nominations for Best Supporting Actress as she pretty a lot campaigning to be nominated for the award. Barring any surprises, it could be a straight fight between Amy Adams “The Fighter” and Helena Bonham Carter “The King’s Speech” but with Melissa Leo “The Fighter” also getting nominations, the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress could well be won by Helena Bonham Carter. But with the winner for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role was given to Melissa Leo “The Fighter” when there are 2 nominations for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role beating “The King’s Speech” Helena Bonham Carter.

Best Director
nominees: Darren AronofskyBlack Swan”, David O. RussellThe Fighter”, Tom HooperThe King’s Speech”, David FincherThe Social Network”, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen True Grit

Each director nominated have done a splendid job in directing some of the toughest and enduring challenges that the director have faced. Each movie is special and it’s a pity that one will walk away with the coveted prize for Best Director. David Fincher lost out on this award for the critically-acclaimed The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and he’s been coming out entertaining films such as Fight Club, Seven, and The Game. This could be the year the Academy rewards him for all of his efforts, especially since there’s a strong chance his film will also win Best Picture with “The Social Network”.

Best Picture:
nominees: “Black Swan”, “The Fighter”, “Inception”, “The Kids Are All Right”, “The King's Speech”, “127 Hours”, “The Social Network”, “Toy Story 3”, “True Grit”, “Winter's Bone

The King’s Speech” already won the Best Feature Film in the Producer Guild Awards but u can’t count out “The Social Network” or “Inception”. Some of the movies selected wouldn’t necessary be picked for selection with the old format of 5 for Best Picture but the inclusion of an extra 5 was a splendid choice by the academy as its now recognise movies that are done well in the movie industry. “The Social Network” seems to be a hit with the critics and at the box office, plus a win for “The Social Network” should allow the members of the Academy to show that they’re hip according to the times. Besides, imagine all the online promotion a film about social networking will get both before and after the Oscars. “The King’s Speech” should be a strong contender to put up a fight together with Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” but the decidedly American quality of The Social Network will allow it to come out on top over a film about royalty and a movie concept of a movie that many didn’t comprehend. It’s a hard pick between “The Social Network”, “The King’s Speech” and “Inception” but “The Social Network” seems to be a better fit to be the winner of the best Picture.
